Yuliya & Martin Greenaway
MARRIED 19 OCTOBER 2019
Yuliya & Martin have the sweetest and most romantic engagement story, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves… We should start at the beginning… At a cafe in the Canberra CBD!
Imagine, you’re sitting in a cafe, sipping on a latte and you look up and lock eyes with your future husband… We like to think that that’s how Yuliya & Martin first met. As far as we know, it could’ve just been a simple bump as they ordered coffee. But we like to think about it either way…
That fateful meeting in the coffee house happened 3 years ago. And since then, they have bonded over SO many things, it would take half the page to talk about them all. Instead, we’ll keep it simple - Yuliya & Martin share a love for the outdoors, camping, hiking, running, etc.
Yuliya sees so much more in Martin than you would know by a first glance. He is a brilliant cook. And Yuliya enjoys the times she has spent being his sous-chef (or chef-assistant as she calls it ;) ) She also appreciates his mind for the knowledge it can share - especially about the makes, models, and specific characteristics and features of all the cars in the world! Martin loves that Yuliya is so competitive that she won’t ever let him win unless he actually beats her fair and square. And of course, her smile enchants him!
In their time together so far, they have travelled to many remote locations such as Lobs Hole Ravine at the Snowys, Goongerah in Victoria, and Lake Brou on the NSW South Coast. Each location is perfect for camping and four-wheel driving.
And so we come to how Martin proposed. It was on a trip to Tasmania back in 2018. Martin had expected that he would propose to Yuliya during the trip, so he put the ring in the car, hoping for a beautiful spot with amazing scenery so that he could drop to one knee and pop the question. He hoped it might be while climbing Cradle Mountain, but the weather was disgusting - rain, wind snow and the visibility was nearly zero as a result. On their climb they couldn’t even reach he summit. Martin prepared again for their climb up Mt Wellington, and for nearly the whole climb the weather was horrible - gale forces winds at the summit, etc. But when they decided to take the Organ Pipe hiking track, suddenly the weather cleared for long enough that he could ask Yuliya his burning question. It ended being perfect - stunning location and beautiful weather! It is a moment that Yuliya won’t easily forget!
Fortunately Martin made the decision to do it on the day he did. Their car, the one he had been storing the ring in each day was burgled the day after he proposed. Had he waited even a day longer, there is a very good chance, the ring would have been a part of the loot the burglars made away with… Safe to say that he made the right decision so that they could get married! And here are just a few of the images we took for them on their wedding day…
