Meg & Brad Bolton
MARRIED 6 MARCH 2021
Sometimes the person you fall in love with is someone who has been in the same room as you quite a number of times without you realising it. This isn’t life’s way of saying you should’ve met earlier, because everyone meets for the right reason at the right time in their life. But it’s fascinating to know that you could’ve met earlier, don’t you reckon?
For Meg & Brad, they could’ve met numerous times prior to the first time they actually met, which was almost on purpose, at a BBQ Meg was hosting for the ANU Criminology Society. They found they had quite a few of the same mutual friends and friendship groups, and had been present at parties, but never been introduced. But after the invitation to join the fateful BBQ, Brad felt there was something more with Meg, and he casually mentioned that later he and his friends were heading out to see the Canberra Enlighten Festival. Meg asked to come along, so they could keep hanging out, and they ended up chatting all night!
Since their fateful meeting in 2018, it didn’t take them long to decide to go on a first date, where Brad took Meg up to Telstra Tower. For those of you playing at home, the date of their first date was 6/3/18, so their wedding day was exactly 3 years to the day of their first date. Cute!
But let’s backtrack a bit. It wasn’t just the first date that created an instant attraction, it was their personalities that drew each other together. Brad has this ability to find positivity and something to laugh about in any given situation. Meg, being generally a very introverted/serious person, she fell in love with Brad encouraged because he helped her to step out of her shell and be more outgoing. Meg has a serious drive and dedication to her studies and general social life. This was something Brad was really attracted to because you could see how much effort she was willing to put in to make others happy.
Brad & Meg have cute memories of each other, including the time Brad raced to take a photo of a lizard at the Botanic Gardens, followed very quickly by him singing the theme song to Jurassic Park to the lizard. To this day, neither of them are sure the lizard got the joke, but they sure did! They also look back very fondly on the day they first moved in together. It was a share-house, but for the first few days, they had it all to themselves, and on their first night, amongst all empt moving boxes, they spent hours dancing together to their favourite tunes.
They have had many wonderful adventures together, but it’s their trip to Cowra during cherry blossom season to visit the beautiful Japanese gardens that they remember so vividly as one of their best trips together.
Brad took his proposal very seriously, so he tricked Meg into thinking it wasn’t a proposal at all. On Meg’s last day of university exams, Brad picked Meg up and told me to get changed into nice clothes because we were going out to celebrate finishing Meg’s undergraduate studies. Brad decided that before they drove to dinner, they should go to Telstra tower. (Remember that was the site of their first date.) When they got to the viewing platform, Brad proposed and Meg said yes (clearly!!). He had picked that spot not only because they had our first date there, but also because it overlooked ANU, where they meet, and where Meg lived on campus. Telstra Tower has become a place they try to go to at least once a year, which for us, is such a beautiful thing to do!
Their wedding day celebrated who they were in the best way we could manage, including a specific trip to the ANU for photos in at least one of the two major locations that mean so much to the two of them. Plus, it’s a little special for our Director, as that’s where he had his wedding photos as well! Here are just a few of the memories we helped to create on their wedding day…
