Krystal & William Merritt
MARRIED 31 AUGUST 2019
From humble beginnings in Batemans Bay, literally bumping into one another one fateful afternoon which got them to talking, to now with two beautiful children, Krystal & William have been quite the pair. And of course, everyone around them in the early days just knew that one day they would be married! And it FINALLY happened!
But let’s back up a bit. The best part about Krystal & William’s story is that he proposed twice. Not in the same way that our Director double proposed, but in their own special way. Will first proposed on Krystal’s 21st birthday, but they didn’t really have the money or the time at that time in their life to make the wedding happen. So, quite a few years (and two children) later, Will proposed again, but this time, it was a public proposal in front of all their friends and family. And the part is that the second proposal occurred during their friend’s wedding (with their permission of course). Krystal knew she had to put on a wedding after that!
Krystal & Will have lived in a few places, including the Gold Coast, where they had their little boy, but will always call Canberra home as that’s where their roots are. They’ve also traveled quite a bit, but will always favour their first overseas trip to Thailand. They are actually quite alike in many different ways. They both have pretty much the same personality, however Krystal can be way louder than William. They both love how they can stir each other up and still come out of it laughing. Will loves Krystal’s personality, she is funny, loud and the biggest smart-ass he has met - it’s actually why he fell in love in the first place. Krystal fell in love with Will because he had muscly arms, haha! But, she also loved his smile and in many ways she just knew he was the one!
So, after 9 years together, 2 children, and many many memories made together, they finally tied the knot at their local church before celebrating in style at the Hellenic Club with their closest family and friends. They even had Will’s cousins perform a special Aboriginal ceremony to pay respects to his heritage. And for them, it was made even more special because their beautiful children were able to be a part of their wedding!
However, notwithstanding their own amazing story, Krystal & Will lost one of their very best friends a couple months before their marriage. And instead of delaying their wedding, they continued with it anyways, paying tribute to their fallen groomsman, Andrew “Drakey” Drake. They wore cowboy boots to salute the man who, in the 24 hours prior to his death, said he would turn up to their wedding in cowboy boots. They even played a few of his favourite hits on the dance floor, and were privileged enough to be able to bring along his cowboy hat for the day.
In turn, and as a small gesture to help them remember him, we included a few images that show that he was there with them in spirit. We know he was with us on the day, and what a beautiful way to help remember him, yet still have their own celebration… Vale Drakey and congratulations Krystal & William. We wish you all the best in everything you do in the future!
