Debbie & Vern Hunter-Hicks

In a world where dating has become an online thing, it is so comforting to know that couples like these two met offline. But not in the most obvious of places, like a bar… No, Debbie & Vern met at the gym. And much to Vern’s surprise, it took Debbie roughly 18 months or so before he finally realise he was interested in her, especially because he wasn’t exactly subtle about it!

But that was a few years ago now, as their relationship finally began in October of 2017 and the rest, they say, is history.

Debbie & Vern fell in love for similar reasons in that they both agree on most things in life, and both have the same values. They have had countless funny and happy moments in their time together, especially because Vern is American, meaning that he can get himself into some interesting situations, mostly due to the different language we use for items. We’re informed that “pot plant” was one that made for one of the funniest moments they’ve shared together. And we’re sure you can work out why. ;)

They are quite the adventurous couple, having been to many places, but none quite as stunning and memorable as Alaska. And with such adventurous people, you might think the proposal was in some far off land, but instead, it was atop Red Hill here in Canberra, where of course Debbie said yes!

On their wedding day, we spent the morning with both Debbie & Vern at Hotel Kurrajong before their ceremony at St Andrew’s in Forrest. We then took them down to the National Gallery where we spent a little bit of time, to capture both the setting sun hours as well as some nighttime photography, as a bit of fun before heading back to Hotel Kurrajong for their reception.
